A note from the pastor….This year is really starting to pass quickly, and it is time for me to remind everyone about the church’s mission statement, vision statement and the goals we set for 2014.

You may be asking yourself, what is a mission statement? A mission statement is a one sentences statement about what we do as a body of believers in Christ Jesus. Rock Springs’ Mission Statement is “to change our world by developing Christ followers who love God and love people.” This mission sets the stage for every ministry and evangelism activity developed through the church. It is our desire to work closely in developing Christ-followers through the love of Christ, who will dramatically change our world. The Bible says, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:7, 11). God’s love has the power to revolutionize our world.

You may also be asking, what is a vision statement? A vision statement is a desired result given by God. It is where we want to end up as a body of believers in Christ Jesus. Rock Springs’ Vision Statement: “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age’” (Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV). This vision statement is the direction, the drive and the authority by which every ministry and evangelism activity is conducted throughout our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). We are committed to this God-honoring vision to run with endurance the race that is set before us, in hope of witnessing His saving grace among the nations. The Lord said, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Habakkuk 2:2-3 NKJV).

As a result of the church’s mission and vision statements, three goals for 2014 have been established by the church. First is to connect with our community. Our hope is to identify on our community map every resident that lives within a one-mile radius of the church and make a personal contact with the residents regarding their spiritual well-being. Second is to pay $20,000.00 on our building loan. God has provided a wonderful facility for ministering in our community and we need to be diligent in using our resources He has provided in covering the cost. Third is to pray for the lost in our community. We are encouraging everyone to get an index card and write at least one un-saved individual’s name on that card and diligently pray every day that person would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

If we are going to reach our goals for this year, we will have to work as hard as the Apostle Paul who wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV). Let us all work diligently to be able to make the same statement for the glory of God.

I hope you will come and worship with us at Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Pastor John
